For autism therapy, part of the CBS mission has always been to help kids connect in the world. This begins with families welcoming us into their homes to provide services, but it continues as we invite our clients to generalize their abilities at the CBS Farm. This is where we offer outdoor spaces and experiences with a more organic twist.
In the warmer months, a certified lifeguard is on duty at our in-ground pool where kids gain safe swim skills from the sidelines to the deep end. Each social group reserves time to facilitate social games, leveled swim programs, and to practice safety skills in and around the pool. Additionally, swim lessons and access to the pool outside of social groups times are available throughout the week!
OUR NATURAL PLAYSCAPE
Our natural playscape gives exploration a whole new meaning as kids can run, climb, explore drums, large wind chimes, put on performances in front of an audience, play around our bubbling boulder, and serve up tasty creations from the outdoor play kitchen.
Regardless of the area of the property, we place the focus on group games and building creative play skills, both of which set the stage for facilitation, collaboration, and communication!
Over the years, our vegetable garden has served many different purposes!
Some groups have turned the garden into a science experiment. Others have used it as a place to shop for ingredients to try new foods. Some groups collaboratively cook new recipes. Many more have practiced motor planning skills around the growing plants.
Regardless, each year this has been a place for clients and staff alike to get a little dirty, work together, and reap the rewards!
Recently updated, everyone at CBS is enjoying the deck! Working and playing games outside can be the most fun and for some the most challenging.
We believe it is important to allow for opportunities to engage in both free and structured play in a variety of environments and the deck allows for this in a multitude of ways. Bring a lunch or snack and have a picnic while you’re outside!
The CBS Farm likely wouldn’t be the same without the barn in the back! The barn has evolved over time, housing different animals over the years. Stop by and you just might be invited to collect eggs from the chickens, carefully hold a baby chic, or catch a glimpse of a gleeful goat. Don’t forget your farm shoes!
